Mental Health Literacy: Kids in Canada talk about Mental Health

A Kids Help Phone Online Survey

Kids Help Phone counsellors receive many calls, and answer many posts from kids with questions about mental health. In fact, in 2009, mental health was the #1 reason youth contacted our service

Current research estimates that approximately one out of every five people struggle with mental health problems before the age of 18. But with having to gauge behaviours and moods, instead of relying on pain and fevers, how does one identify a potential mental health-related concern?

The purpose of this report, and the survey on which it is based, is to explore both what young people know about mental health and if (and how) this translates into a willingness to reach out for help.
